Joan (Judy) Wall Garcia, 82, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2016, surrounded by her family. Joan was born in East Layton to Cora and Irie Wall. She always cherished her East Layton memories of growing up there with her family. Joan married Liofredo Garcia on March 28, 1953. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 17, 1971.
For 27 years, Joan worked at IRS as a tax examiner and supervisor in electronic filing. She cherished all the many friendships that she made while working there. After her retirement, she got the chance to work her dream job – being a school teacher. She spent many hours substituting at Doxey Elementary, Vae View Elementary, and Sunset Junior High. In her heart, the children in those classrooms became her own.
Joan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was in many wards of the Sunset Stake and served in many callings. Her favorite calling was Junior Sunday School Coordinator.
Joan and her sisters loved to travel and this is something that she instilled in her children. Her favorite destinations were Kauai, Disneyland and Wendover. She made it a priority to visit these places annually for many years.
Joan is survived by her children: Charles (Kaye) Garcia, Aurora, CO; Terri Knight, Clinton; Karen (Ryan) Judson, Pleasant View; Denise (George) Langlois, West Weber; Dennis (Jamie) Garcia, West Haven; and Douglas (Traci) Garcia, Clinton. She is also survived by her sisters, Olive Weston, Darlene Genetti, Anne Farnsworth, Fonda (Del) Beck, and one brother Larry (Terry) Wall. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Arlene Bell.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her. Sitting in her rocking chair on her front porch visiting friends and family was a day well spent in her eyes.
The family would like to thank her dear friends, Katherine Wood and Norma Allen, for their devotion to our mother. Words cannot express our gratitude. We would also like to thank Fairfield Village of Layton and Inspiration Home Health Care for all they have done.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
May we all learn from her and make this world a better place. “Try to find good in everyone, even if you have to search.”
