Joan Ellen Martin, 82, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at McKay Dee Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on July 14, 1942, in Ellensburg, Washington, the daughter of Donald Keith and Mary Tjossem Campbell. She earned her bachelor’s in education from the University of Idaho and a teaching certificate through the Idaho Education Association where she once served as President and an active member. She was also a member of the National Education Association. Joan was a beloved teacher at Hansen Elementary School for many years and later taught in Twin Falls and Kimberly Elementary Schools.
Joan was a cellist and enjoyed playing in the Magic Valley Symphony. She also enjoyed playing the piano. Joan had a passion for sewing and knitting and enjoyed a variety of crafts. She loved her dogs and eating at Texas Roadhouse. She was very proud of her children.
Joan is survived by her children, Ken (Beth Berger) Martin, Lucinda Johnson, and Tim (Natalie) Martin; four grandchildren, Brandon D’Andrea, Madison and Sierra Johnson and Karlee Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Keith Campbell, of Cheney, WA.
There will be no local ceremony. Instead, the family is planning a celebration of life in Redfish Lake, ID in the summer of 2025. If you are interested in attending, please reach out to one of her children.
