JoAn Poll

SOUTH WEBER - JoAn Rose Schoss Poll, our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away and left her earthly home on February 21, 2015 surrounded by her family. She is now free from the merciless disease of Alzheimers. JoAn was born January 30, 1931 in Ogden to Fred William Schoss and Rose Elizabeth Bauman. She lived in Ogden until she was 11, then moved to South Weber where she lived most of her life.

She married the love of her life Edward L. Poll on April 7, 1948. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. They cherished 66 years together and were blessed with two daughters and two sons.

JoAn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She retired from Hill Air Force Base after many years of service.

She was a devoted wife. She loved spending time with her sweetheart, watching western movies, listening to country music, and in their younger years, dancing every Saturday night. She watched endless hours of the Utah Jazz, BYU and the Colorado Rockies so she could be close to her husband. She especially loved the beauty of the outdoors spending time with her husband in the Uintah’s at their cabin. Together they enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, horse racing, family gatherings, and just relaxing under a shade tree.

She was a terrific mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, building family traditions, summer picnics, and Christmas breakfast featuring oyster stew. For 62 years she established a family tradition of going to the cemetery on Dec. 8 to remember Kenny (her son) on his birthday. She liked to garden, quilt, make ceramics, crochet, knit, and enjoyed eating desserts, especially ice cream and chocolate!

She is survived by her daughters Gail (Dale) Ukena, Gwen Boseman, and son Flint Edward Poll, 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law Max (Betty) Poll; four sisters-in-law: Jane (Vine) Poll, Dorothy (Cleary) Markham, Joyce (Danny) Weaver and JoAnn (Don) Stone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Kenneth Lee Poll, four brothers, Loren, Vern, Ferrin, and Dee Schoss and one sister, Marjorie Schoss Carey. Also many loving brother and sisters-in-law.

JoAn will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a tough ole gal and leaves a legacy of cherished memories.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to Essential Care CNAs Cindy and Vicki; Mountain Ridge Assisted Living residents and staff; and IHC Homecare/Hospice RNs Kathy and Raelynn, who helped her through the sunset of her life, all of which provided exceptional loving care.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit with family on Thursday, February 26, from to 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, Ogden.
