Joan Hadley Schultz

Joan Hadley Schultz, a beloved matriarch whose laughter and love resonated within the hearts of many, departed this world on April 12, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on February 4, 1934, to Alonzo and Iretta Hadley. Joan embodied the spirit of her family name—she was a Hadley, a spicy redhead with a spunky personality, attributes she lovingly passed on to her treasured grandchildren.

For over 45 years, Joan was known affectionately as “The Avon lady,” a pillar of determination and grace who was foremost a dedicated wife and mother. Her devotion to her family was matched only by her passion for life and the simple joys it offered. An alumna of Weber High School, class of 1952, Joan carried the lessons of her early years into every aspect of her life—working tirelessly not for accolades, but out of love.

Her culinary skills will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to sit at her table. Joan had an unparalleled talent for baking, especially her beloved bread and banana cupcakes. She was renowned for her mouthwatering rolls and was always prepared to bring warmth to a chilly day with homemade chicken noodle soup. There was a special enchantment in her home, where laughter echoed alongside the sweet notes of music, for Joan loved to dance and sing, her spirit ignited by the rhythm of life. With a playful nature, she would often call to the fish while fishing, exclaiming, “here fishy fishy fishy,” inviting joy and wonder into every moment she embraced.

In addition to her illustrious career and nurturing family life, Joan served the community with unwavering commitment, holding multiple callings in her ward. She was the Primary chorister for many years and a continuous Nursery Leader for 17 years, a Relief Society President, and a Young Womens President, roles she undertook with a warmth that left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. She was “Grandma” to many in the Nursery. Her memory as a guiding light to others mirrors her essence—humble, yet proud of her profound contributions to the lives of those she guided and the cherished family she raised.

While her physical presence has faded, Joan’s spirit persists through the love and lessons she imparted. She leaves behind a legacy woven together with the lives of her children, Neil R. (Debra) Schultz, Lynn (Jana) Schultz, Chris (Kathy) Schultz, Sheri (Aaron) Baugh, Jeff (Tiffany) Schultz, and Gina (Robert) Harper. Her family continues with 28 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren—all of whom carry a piece of her vibrant spirit within their hearts. Joan is survived by her youngest brother, Gordon Hadley, with whom she shared countless memories. 

Joan is reunited with her loving husband Ronald; her grandson Max; her parents, and her siblings Gladys Gibson, A.B. Hadley, Marvin Hadley, Dorothy Cole, Irene Peek, Carl Hadley, Dean Hadley, June Heiser, and Roland Hadley. 

The loss of Joan is felt deeply by all who knew her. As we gather to celebrate her remarkable life, we remember a woman whose heart was as vast as her talent, a mother whose love will echo through generations, and a friend whose warmth and joy will adorn our memories forever.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Kanesville Stake Center, 4555 West 4000 South, West Haven, UT. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, and on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Aultorest Memorial Park.
