Joan Yvonne “Vonnie” Christensen

August 6, 1937 - December 28, 2020

Joan Yvonne “Vonnie” Christensen beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother left this earthly life on Dec. 28, 2020 to join her love and eternal companion Ronald Raymond Christensen. Ron had passed just 13 minutes before her in a separate facility near their home in Layton Utah, continuing their love story that began when they were married 63 years ago.

Vonnie was the daughter of Robert and Rossetta Warth (Green) born August 6, 1937 in Pocatello, Idaho. Spending most of her childhood in Pocatello with a family she adored, she learned to play the piano and the organ which blessed her life and the lives of many others for years to come.

After graduating from Pocatello High School, she spent some time as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone. Shortly after, she and her best friend Norleen decided to go on an adventure and move to Seattle, WA.  This is where she and Ron met, fell in love and were married in Coeur d’Alene, ID. September 13, 1957.  They quickly began their family having four children, Cindy (1958), Linda (1959), Dean (1962) and Lee (1963). Vonnie was a loving, devoted mother and grandmother that continues to be adored by her four children, 20 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was central part of who Vonnie was. She taught her children the gospel and served in many capacities, including; a very loved seminary teacher in Eatonville WA., many callings as a pianist and ward and stake organist. She enjoyed singing in choirs and loved listening to the Tabernacle Choir. She also served as a temple worker in the Seattle Temple, she especially loved working in the bride’s room.

All who knew Vonnie and Ron knew that their home was open to friends and family. Vonnie loved people and made friends wherever she went. She was funny, silly, affectionate and kind. She created an environment in her home that people were drawn to, she had a distinct reputation of kindness, dignity and love.  She loved the holidays and summer picnics, and always made them special. Being the wife of an airline pilot, she loved the opportunity to travel, and visited many beautiful places around the world. However, she still loved her visits back to her Pocatello childhood home.

We as family are all so grateful to have had this beautiful soul pass on her legacy of faith, compassion, and kindness.  She loved her family dearly, and continues to be dearly loved by them.
