JoAnn Bates
July 17, 1934 ~ October 8, 2017
Our loving aunt and sister JoAnn Bates passed away peacefully on October 8, 2017 at Crestwood Care Center at the age of 83. The middle daughter of Louis Edward and Bertha Laverne Bates she was born on July 17, 1934 at the old Dee Memorial Hospital. Her younger years were spent on the family ranch in Mountain Green. As a teenager she moved to Morgan where she graduated from Morgan High School in 1953. Most of her adult years were spent in Ogden where she enjoyed going to the library, embroidering, doing genealogy, and babysitting. She moved to Riverdale where she resided with her sister Laverne Weger for the last seventeen years. She was a member of the LDS Church in the Riverdale 5th Ward.
Her family was everything to her and she loved getting together for family dinners and a good piece of strawberry pie. Aunt Jo was an aunt and great aunt to 60 nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She could usually be found reading a good book, putting together puzzles or watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights.
She is survived by her older sister Laverne Weger. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister MaryBeth Edwards.
Special thanks to Samuel and Serena Pluim for the outstanding care they provided.
