JoAnn Carol Bennett Taylor

May 27, 1929 — April 20, 2024

Our mother, beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, JoAnn Carol Bennett Taylor, passed away in Ogden, Utah on April 20, 2024, at the age of 94. JoAnn was born along with her twin brother Jimmy on May 27, 1929, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were the youngest of nine children born to James Craig and Ida Pratt Bennett. She had a beautiful childhood growing up on the family farm. She married Jack Thornton Taylor on February 23, 1951, in Elko, Nevada.

While she attended the University of Idaho, she spent her summers working in the Hamilton gift stores in Yellowstone. After graduation she taught elementary school for 30 years. She adored teaching, especially first grade, and her biggest joy was watching them grow and improve.  Many years later, students would find her and express their appreciation and love.

In her youth, she attended the First Presbyterian Church in Idaho Falls, Idaho and joined the Job’s Daughters organization. Later, she was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, joining her family. She was sealed to her husband and family, including her late daughter Julie, in the Brigham City Temple on May 24, 2014.

One of JoAnn’s greatest passions was traveling the world with her friends and family, having visited all seven continents. She rode elephants in India, stood at the equator, experienced the chill of Antarctica and held exotic animals in Madagascar.

JoAnn was an avid volunteer at the Ogden Rescue Mission, in the Seager Memorial Clinic, where she served the homeless. She was also active in many clubs and organizations, including Alpha Delta Kappa (where she served as presidents for a time), Arts International, Le Livre book club, and bridge clubs. She gained lifelong friendships in these organizations.

JoAnn is survived by her daughters Jackie (Wayne) Kartchner and Jan (Glenn) Stauffer; her son, Jerry (Jane) Taylor; 21 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces and nephews with whom she had a close relationship. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Taylor; her daughter, Julie (Glenn) Kartchner; her parents, brothers, and sisters.

We would like to thank the community and the staff at Treeo. Special thanks goes out to Barbara and her other personal care CNAs, along with the staff at Harrison Pointe for the wonderful care that they provided her through her last days.
