JoAnne G. Brown
1942-2013
JoAnne Gooch Brown, 70, born December 17, 1942 in Ogden, Utah, passed away peacefully at home in St. George, Utah on Sunday, December 15, 2013. She married Paul F. Brown on January 9, 1960, after an overnight journey through the state of Nevada. Paul and JoAnne were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on January 9, 1961. She is preceded in death by her parents John Cyrus Gooch and Marian Kelson Gooch, and her sister Judith Ann Gooch McKinstry. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, her sister Marian K. Gooch (Edmond) Keller, her children Paula J. Brown (Jay) Tarver, John P. (Linda) Brown, Todd H. (Hope) Brown, six grandchildren, and 4¾ great-grandchildren. JoAnne was an active member of her church, working tirelessly in many callings in many wards. She loved volunteering for her community and was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
JoAnne died of complication from silicosis caused mainly by the inhalation of ceramic dust. Silicosis is a preventable disease when proper protection is used. We encourage all who may be exposed to ceramic, cement, sand, and other silica based products to do research and practice proper precautionary measures.
An open house will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013, from 6:30 pm -8:00 pm, at the St. George LDS 4th Ward Building, 100 North Valley View Drive.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. where friends may visit family from 9:30 am – 10:30 am prior to services. Interment will follow at the Bountiful Cemetery.
