JoAnne (Bates) Burrell, our wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away in her home surrounded by family at the age of 77. JoAnne was born to Karl Theodore Bates and Rita Bunker of Chino Valley, Arizona on 9 June 1946, in Prescott, Arizona.
JoAnne was a gifted seamstress who generously used her talents to bless others. For her wedding she made her own wedding dress as well as the dresses for all of the bridesmaids and mothers of the bride and groom. She also made countless other wedding, formal, and baptismal dresses. She stitched and embroidered beautiful gifts – from cherished baptismal artworks to holiday-themed pillowcases she gave her grandchildren every Christmas for 12 years. She also made countless quilts, quilted wall hangings, table runners, and tablecloths.
JoAnne and Phil were married and sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on 12 April 1968. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had great faith in Jesus Christ and loved sharing the gospel in all aspects of her life. She served in many callings and capacities, where she was known as a genuine and Christ-like person to all within her reach.
JoAnne is survived by her husband, Phil Burrell; children and their spouses: Julie (Scott) Brown, George (Kristy) Burrell, Jonathan (Corrina) Burrell, David (Jill) Burrell, Jennifer (John) Smith, Christopher (Keri) Burrell, Martha (James) Aston; 34 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters and 5 brothers. She is preceded in death by her parents, Karl Theodore and Rita (Bunker)
Bates and her sister, Evelyn (Bates) Dilg.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 1, 2023, at 3:00 PM in the chapel at 3290 W. 800 N. West Point, UT, with a viewing prior from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. Friends may visit with family on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 6 to 8 PM at the Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary, 869 S. 2000 W. Syracuse, UT.
