Joanne Probst Valentine
October 6, 1942 ~ September 3, 2022
Joanne Probst Valentine passed in the morning of September 3, 2022. She was born on October 6, 1942 in Ogden, Utah, the oldest child of John Edward and Alice Odd Probst. After graduating from high school, she married Roger Lee Valentine in the Salt Lake Temple on September 10, 1964.
Joanne worked in many different jobs throughout her life. She worked on Hill Air Force Base as a secretary and at the Utah State Hospital. She used her shorthand skills one year at Christmas to label everyone’s presents with shorthand instead of their names and giggled as they all clamored to figure out which gifts belonged to whom. After they moved to California she worked as a loan processor for a large mortgage company.
Throughout her life she served in various church callings from Primary President, Relief Society teacher and Young Women leader.
Joanne and Roger were parents to five daughters and two sons. When they were blessed with grandchildren, she adored spoiling them with chocolate milk, candy, and cookies. Birthdays and Christmas were her joy as she would pick out and plan presents for children and grandchildren.
When they retired back to North Ogden, Joanne filled her days, and house, with sewing, crocheting, and quilting. Joanne never met a textile craft she didn’t like or want to buy. Her exquisite blankets, quilts, dresses, purses, and afghans were treasured gifts to her family.
Roger’s death in 2018 was hard for Joanne. After 54 years of marriage, she missed the companionship.
Falls, beginning with her ankle break in 2006 and the leg fracture in 2015, became a concern. Her health deteriorated rapidly in the last year and a half. Her mind began to fail her and her family did their best to meet her needs in her last months. A final fall in July 2022 led to her last hospital stay. The last few days of her life were painful and miserable as stomach pain became unbearable. Hopefully, peace has found her.
Joanne is survived by her children, Deborah V. (Craig) Dunn of Boise, ID; Carey V. (Orlando) Ruiz of Lindon, UT; Ryan Lee (Katie) Valentine of Highland, UT; Anne V. Adair of Austin, TX; Lynette V. (George) Prosser of Pleasant View, UT and Natalie V. (Casey) Roberts of Plain City, UT; 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, David (Carole) Probst, Ralph Probst, Dean (Koy) Probst; and sisters, Karen Knowles and Laurie (Dennis) Moody. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lee Valentine; her son, Jeffrey Roger Valentine; granddaughter, Stefanie Camille Lodeserto; her father, John Edward Probst; mother, Alice Odd Probst Jensen and sister, Colleen Probst Pollard.
