Joanne Taylor Blackburn
SOUTH OGDEN a" A remarkable and beautiful wife and mother passed away on Mother''s Day, surrounded by her family and friends. Joanne Taylor Blackburn was born on September 12, 1929 to Lawrence E. and Blanche N. Taylor in Ogden, Utah. She grew up on a dairy farm in North Ogden and attended grade school in the Weber County School District. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1947. She then attended Weber College studying shorthand, typing and accounting.
In 1949, she married her lifelong companion and husband, Thair Blackburn, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They moved to Boulder, Colorado for his schooling and during this time, she served as secretary to the Alumni Director for the University of Colorado. They moved back to Utah and raised a family of three boys, Andy, Jeff, and Rich. As they matured in schooling, Joanne returned to her joy of working - with the Weber School District, then for Medical Business Services, where she worked for 35 years, just recently retiring. She also handled the financial part of her husband''s architectural practice.
Joanne had many hobbies a" bonsai plants, pottery, singing with the Sweet Adeline''s Chorus, tap dancing, painting, opera, sewing, landscaping, reading, traveling with her husband, and giving support to her husband, children and grandchildren in their endeavors. Her efforts and energies rewarded her with the universal goal of achieving happiness.
She is survived by her husband, Thair, of South Ogden; sons, Andrew (Tracey) Blackburn, North Ogden; Dr. Jeff Blackburn, Midlothian, VA; Rich Blackburn, Washington Terrace; and 10 revered grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Jerry (Charles) Lindquist, North Ogden; Shirley Harbertson and Madge (Ronald) Parker, both of Bountiful.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Lawrence and Blanche Taylor.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Anderson and the nursing staff at McKay-Dee Hospital, and Dr. Wood and the nursing staff of IHC Homecare and Hospice for providing excellent care.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11 a.m. Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
A visitation will be held at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
