Our beautiful mom, grandma, and wife peacefully left her journey here with us after a long, brave battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She passed away on March 11, 2025, and joined the ones she loved and missed for so long, especially her mom, whom she lost when she was 17 years old.
She was born on November 12, 1941, to Roland and Thelma Ruth Nielson. She was the youngest of three children; she had two older brothers, Floyd and Fred. She grew up on a farm in Paul, Idaho and enjoyed sharing stories about life on the farm, the hard work, walking to the outhouse during winter, boiling water on the stove for a bath in the kitchen, food made from scratch, time spent with her mom, teasing from Fred, and anecdotes like, “most eggs will break when you swing a bucket of them upside down multiple times.” She was quiet but also had a mischievous side.
Mom was the mother of four children, Debbie and Don came into her life during her first marriage to Larry Chesley. Denise and Danette came into her life during her second marriage to Bill Kapp, whom she remained married to until his passing in 2017.
She loved Elvis, working in her yard, hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, BBQs with family (“Nothing fancy and if you go away hungry, it’s your own damn fault.”), and weekend trips with dad to Idaho and Wendover. She was an amazing grandma and loved spending time with her grandkids, spoiling them with love, time, and attention. Whether it was having dinner at her house or just stopping in for a chat, visiting her was like shopping at Sam’s Club. You always went home with more than you planned. She made sure you had plenty of food to eat and all the paper essentials.
We are going to miss this beautiful, brave, strong, and loving woman who showed us that strength can get you through the tough times and to never give up without a fight. We love you!
Mom leaves behind four children, Debbie (Curtis), Don (Lisa), Denise (Frank), and Danette (Rich); 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Those who preceded her in death and welcomed her with open arms (and an open motorhome door) are her husband and our dad, Bill; her parents; two brothers; and many other close family members and friends.
To honor our mom, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association and spend quality time with your family and friends.
