Jody Bruce Barker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away on October 7, 2024, at the age of 76. Born April 21, 1948, in American Fork, Utah, Jody lived a life marked by love, compassion, perseverance, and a spirit of adventure.
Jody’s love story began in 1969 when he met the love of his life, Carla Ann Geiger. They married in 1970 and shared a beautiful union for 54 years.
Jody graduated from Davis High School, earned a Bachelor’s in Business from Weber State University, and furthered his education with a Master’s in Computer Science from University of Phoenix.
Jody served his country, in the Vietnam Era, from 1970 to 1972. He served in the US Army as a supply sergeant and was stationed in Augusta, Georgia before transferring to Heidelberg, Germany in 1971. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Barker Insurance Agency where he served his community for two decades. Later, Jody found a fulfilling career at Convergys where he forged lasting friendships as a Technical Account Manager.
Jody’s love for the outdoors led him on countless adventures. He loved camping in National Parks, especially Yellowstone, Arches, and the Tetons. Adventures weren’t complete unless he was with his family and best friends, Dave and Rose Helquist, and their family.
As a youth Jody loved to play baseball and football. He enjoyed golfing, pool, bowling, and canoeing. A lifelong music enthusiast, Jody cherished attending concerts. Jody was a dedicated fan of the Utah Jazz, loved the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos.
Jody is survived by his loving wife, Carla Ann Geiger Barker; their children, Candice Ann Barker Monson (Jared), Jennifer Lynn Barker, and Jason Jody Barker (Bradie Ormond); his grandsons, Andrew, Devin, Cedric, and Nicholas Monson; his sister, Diane McCurdy (Tom); his sister-in-law, Robin Loretta Geiger Tydeck (Bobby) and friend, James Pavelka; his brother-in-law, Paul J Geiger (Judy); his sister-in-law, Elaine Barker Pitts (Michael), and many beloved nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces. Jody was preceded in death by parents, John Leo Barker and Grace Elaine Skinner; brothers, Gary Barker (Joyce), Dennis Barker (Kaye), Rickey Barker; and best lifelong friends, Rose Marie and David Helquist.
