Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peaceful at home in Layton, Utah on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at the age of 85.

He was born to Leslie Paul Shelton and Ellen Margaret Newton in Elk City, Kansas on January 27, 1937.  They moved to Roy, Utah when Joe was eight years old.  He married Donna Marie Higgs on January 30, 1959 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  They settled in Layton, Utah and raised two daughters.

He worked for Jetway for 38 years before retiring.  He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He loved gardening, tractors, and traveling.  He enjoyed visiting with friends and family and sharing the abundance of fruits and vegetables from his well-tended garden.  He loved spending time with his family and was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, his daughters Tamera Stephens (Craig), Julie Ross (David), his sister Norma Jene Jensen, sister-in-law Diane Shelton, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Wesley Paul Shelton and Charles Floyd Shelton, sister-in-law Ruth “Mickey” Shelton, brother-in-law Loren Jensen and great grandson Peter Tyler Ross.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.  and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
