JoeAnn Puryear Yarborough (1945-2013)

JoeAnn Puryear Yarborough, a noble warrior, passed away with dignity on January 3, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She fought a long and arduous battle against ovarian cancer. She was born May 28, 1945 to Robert Lewis and Clara Barnes Puryear in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she was raised and educated. She lived in Utah for the past seven years.

JoeAnn was a loving mother who adored her children, an avid cook, loyal supporter of the Humane Society and the American Cancer Society. Her personal mantra was "Spread the word and save a life."

She is survived by one son, William "Melvin" (Amy) Puryear, Greensboro, NC; two daughters, Angela C. Yarborough, Salt Lake City, UT and Cheryl Bruton (Jonathan) Lewis, Chandler, AZ; four grandchildren, Nikita Mckoy, Ryan Lewis Puryear, Evan Puryear, and Joshua Winstead Lewis; brothers, Robert Lewis (Jenny) Puryear, Philadelphia, PA.; William A. (Jean) Puryear, Philadelphia, PA.; Earl (Valarie) Puryear, Winston-Salem N.C.; Samuel Gibson (Barbara) Puryear Sr., Winston-Salem, N.C.; sister Linda (John) Eaton, Hanover, MD., and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by parents, husband, Andrew Lee Yarborough, IV; son, Andrew Lee (TuTu) Yarborough, V; two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, following the family visitation hour at 12:30 pm on January 18, 2013 at Second Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 1751 New Walkertown Rd, Winston Salem, NC. Interment to follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 5676 Old Walkertown Road, Walkertown, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 1700, New York, N.Y. 10122. Arrangements made under the direction of Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, Utah and Russell Funeral Home, North Carolina.
