Joel Lee Adams

October 16, 1951 — December 30, 2024

Joel Lee Adams passed away on December 30, 2024, at the age of 73. Joel was born to Joseph B. and Leah Poll Adams in Ogden Utah on October 16, 1951. Joel was a lifelong resident of Layton Utah. He attended Crestview Elementary, Central Davis Jr. High, and was among the first graduating class at Layton High School in 1970.

Growing up, Joel enjoyed playing football, baseball and running track. He loved hunting, especially mule deer and pheasants, and fishing. Much of his life was spent working on the family farm and at his parents’ café, Little Joe’s.

Joel was drafted into the Army on February 3, 1971, and was stationed in Germany. He returned home January 23, 1973. He worked in construction until being hired at Hill AFB in February of 1974 where he was a welder for much of his career.

In June of 1974, Joel met Connie Forbush of Farmington Utah at a Lagoon Rodeo. They were married in Salt Lake City on January 10, 1975. Joel and Connie have three children, Travis, Talia, and Ike. As a family, any vacation time was spent in the mountains enjoying camping, fishing, and hunting. Joel was able to go on some special and successful hunts with his son Travis as his guide. He also instilled the love for hunting in his daughter, Talia, by taking her on many of her own hunts. For several years during the winter months Joel trapped muskrats and racoons with his lifelong friend Bill Breski. Joel really enjoyed the years he was able to spend at the mountain property in Uintalands.

The highlight of Joel’s life was in 2010 when his racehorse “Vee Oh Dashin Shot” won the Beehive Futurity, Ed Giles Futurity and placed 2nd in the Blaine Schvaneveldt Futurity in South Jordan. Joel’s horse Shot went on to another successful Derby race year in 2011 racing in Idaho and Nevada. His last racehorse “Pappa Joels Vee OH” was another great experience for Joel, especially with his son Ike as the trainer and pony rider. Joel was extremely proud that his children and grandchildren shared this passion for horse racing. Ultimately his favorite horse was Waspy who Joel rode for many years to hunt deer. Once Waspy died, Joel retired that style of hunting.

Joel is survived by his wife Connie and children Travis Joel Adams of Newton, UT, Talia Lee Preston of Layton, UT, and Ike J Adams of Layton, UT. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Bode and Tripp Adams, Tailyn, Taelar, Teegan and Wyitt Preston, Allie Adams and Kye Hendrix.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Leah Adams.

The family wishes to thank Kathy Poll of OnSite Advanced Care and Joel’s favorite nurse, Amy Burns, for her care and concern.
