Joetta Marlene Higgs Ogea
Joetta Marlene Higgs Ogea passed away peacefully on February 26, 2018. She was 86 years old.
Jo was born in Havana, IL, and was the youngest of three children.
After graduating from high school, Jo left Havana to enroll in nursing training at the Julia F. Burnham School of Nursing in Urbana, IL. Although she was unable to continue this endeavor due to health issues, she respected and appreciated the field of nursing for the rest of her life.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jo served in various capacities within her church community and neighborhood. She was generous and willing to share pretty much everything she had with those around her. She was “Grandma Jo” to everyone who knew her.
Jo was lively, talkative, and very sassy. She loved scotch tape; she taped every envelope and wrapped every gift with vim and vigor. Opening packages, letters, and gifts from Jo was not a task for the faint of heart.
Jo loved crock pots and thought everyone should have at least one in their possession. She loved trips to IKEA, mattress shopping, chocolate, good food, good music and family. She had an amazing sense of humor and seemed far younger than her years in both her vitality and spunk for life. She was fiercely independent to the very end.
Jo spoke her mind, served with heart and brought light and joy to many. We will miss her dearly.
Jo is survived by her four sons Ken, Don, Glenn (Ann), and Mark; her grandchildren Kelly (Jeremy), Kayla (Ronow), Devan, Katie (David), Erin (Landon), Graham, and Katie; her great grandchildren Ivin, William, Henry, George, Totem, Sloane and Ruby.
