A kind and gentle man, son, father, and friend, John Merlin Bartlett passed peacefully from this life to a joyous reunion with his parents, sons, and Heavenly Father on Friday, September 14, 2007.
He was born June 24, 1927 in Kanesville, Utah to John and Martha Rawson Bartlett.
John attended Weber County schools, graduating from Weber High School. He also graduated from Weber State College with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. He worked for and retired from Hill Air Force Base.
He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the United States Army.
John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He married Marilyn Simmons in the Logan LDS Temple and together they had six children. Although they parted, they remained good friends and cared deeply for one another.
Dad had a great sense of humor. He made everyone laugh and liked to entertain the grandchildren with his funny stories. He enjoyed being near the ocean. He loved all of nature. Dad''s passion was music, especially the Big Bands. It was always fun to watch Dad and Mom float across the dance floor. Dad was very kind, caring and appreciative of others. We learned a lot from his example.
John is survived by his children: Joy (Scott) Canfield, Patricia (Bill) Thomas, Kathryn (Douglass) Hunter and David Bartlett; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Bruce and Thomas, parents, siblings and two grandsons.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 20th at 11 a.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd.
Friends and family may call Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the aides at Legacy House who so tenderly cared for Dad, they were truly his second family. Thanks to Fred from Alpine Hospice for taking the time to listen.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Alpine Hospice, 5478 Adams Avenue, Ogden, Utah 84405.
