WASHINGTON TERRACE a€" John Wayne Conley, the Southern Gentleman, was born in Marshall, Texas on January 24, 1940. He passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer''s and Parkinson''s.

John was the first of three boys born to John and Mary Elizabeth Lancaster Conley. His brothers are Daniel M. "Tucker" Conley deceased and David A. Conley. John was reared and attended school in Marshall, Texas. He attended Brigham Young University and Weber State College.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Barbara, Clinton; sons, John R. (Jill), Chandler, AZ; Kevin L. (Tonya), St. George; Matthew B. (Christy), Clinton; Monica L. (Jacob) Kapp, West Weber; Daniel P. (Mildred), West Jordan, Andria C. (Eric) Munoz, North Ogden. His legacy also includes 19 grandchildren.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a full time mission to the West Central States Mission. He was the first missionary to serve from East Texas. He held many church callings throughout his life.

John served as a commissioned officer in the Texas National Guard. He worked for Thiokol Corporation in both Texas and Utah for 30 years. He and Barbara opened Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in 1992 after retiring from Thiokol.

He was a connoisseur of fine automobiles and spent several years with the Ken Garff Group in Ogden. His great love and appreciation of cars was shared with his four sons. John loved "His Utah Mountains". One of his favorite things to do was motorcycle riding in Southern Utah with his friends. Barbara''s nickname for him was "Captain Marvel". John''s legacy will include good music, romantic dancing, football games, dark chocolate, ice cream and long road trips with his family. He will be missed for his quick wit, sense of humor and love of good food and many talents.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 21, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Family will meet with friends at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honors Guard.
