Your friend, your neighbor, your Mayor... our husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep early November 29, 2013. Born in Salt Lake City to John and Janis Curtis and raised primarily in Ogden, Steve was the fourth of seven children in a family where service and integrity were instilled. He graduated from Ogden High School and attended both Weber State and Brigham Young Universities. He humbly served a mission for the LDS Church in Germany.
Steve started a career in communications that spanned over 29 years. He met and married his sweetheart in 1982; they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity. Through good times and rough times they have stood side by side for nearly 32 years. He has lived his life in the service of others throughout his church and civil service with great conviction.
He has been privileged to spend 18 years as an elected official believing that if you care about something you must do something about it. He worked closely with Hill Air Force Base and was proud to work alongside those protecting our great country. Steve is a proven advocate of those he has represented. He lived by the saying and taught his children that "to be the best that you can be you must dream of being more." It is Steve''s belief that the future will not be created by chance, but by choice; it is not a thing waited for, but a thing to be achieved. He was just an ordinary guy who did extraordinary things. He is dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Some of his greatest joys in life were being a husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife RaeLynn, children: Stephanie (Drew), Riley, Austin (Katie), Karson, and Katie Rae; grandchildren: Audrey, Camden, and Harper; his mother and father-in-law Ray and Kathryn Wood; and his six brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his mother and father John and Janis Curtis.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Davis Conference Center, 748 W. Heritage Park Blvd., Layton, UT. Friends may visit with family Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at America First Credit Union.
