John Richard Dallinga

December 1, 1921 ~ March 31, 2014

John Richard Dallinga, 92, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014.  He was born on December 1, 1921 to Heiko and Christina Van Drimmelen Dallinga. Both of his parents emigrated from Holland and he was always proud of his Dutch heritage.  He attended Pingree Elementary, Washington Junior High and graduated from Ogden High School, class of 1940 and attended Weber Academy for one year before entering the Army.

He married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Dalley on January 12, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He had 66 wonderful years with her. They were blessed with four children.

John had a lifelong service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including as a Bishop, High Counselor three times, and as an Ogden Temple worker for 26 years with 22 years as a sealer.

John served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater. He worked as a machinist for Southern Pacific Railroad for 42 years; “Once a railroader, always a railroader.”

His hobbies included stamp collecting, coin collecting, camping, and woodwork making clocks. He loved all kinds of sports and was an avid golfer. He had a well kept home and yard.

He lived in Washington Terrace for 67 years and served on the City Council.

John is survived by his children, Dennis L. (Donna) Dallinga, West Haven; Linda (Richard) Thorsted, North Ogden; and Bruce J. Dallinga, Clinton; and Robin L. McLellen, Clinton; 23 grandchildren and  52 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Dallinga; granddaughter, Lisa Pirtle; great-grandson, Payton Dallinga; brother, Heiko Junior; and sisters, Katherine Bradshaw, Bertha Stewart, and Shirley Tyler.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 5 th Ward, 350 West 5100 South.  Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
