John Andrew Davis, 91, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007.
John was born February 7, 1916 at the family home in Boyero, Colorado. He was the fifth of seven children born to Harry F. and Louise W. Davis. He graduated from Boyero High School in 1934 and attended Colorado State College at Fort Collins. He was enrolled in ROTC training and joined the Colorado National Guard.
In August 1935, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp at Chanute Field, Illinois. This was the beginning of an interesting 30 year career in the military. Next stops were Alabama, Florida, California, Florida, Colorado, Guam, New Mexico, California, Florida, Alaska, and finally Utah. He was assigned to a B-57 squadron at Hill Air Force Base, where he retired in 1965 and entered a new profession as an account executive in the securities business. Health problems dictated his final retirement in 1982.
In 1940, while stationed at Maxwell Field in Montgomery, Alabama, he met and married Hazel Coenen, the love of his life and the mother of his three children: Joan Feddern, Roy, UT; Margaret Ann (Bob) Hendricks, Oxford, KS; and John A. "Andy" Davis II, San Jose, CA. He is survived by his three children; two granddaughters, Joy (Ricky) Allenbaugh, Sumter, SC; Stacy (James) Sayers, Riverdale, UT; two grandsons, Rob and Matt Hendricks, Oxford, KS; two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by three sisters and one brother, Anna Egbert, Prescott, KS; Mildred Chamberlain, Bryan, TX; Warren Davis, Waxahachie, TX; and Rhoda Wilcox, Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and two older brothers.
John was a died in the wool conservative, as was his father. He was a Mason, a Shriner, and an Elk. He also was a member of the Military Officers of America, the Heritage Foundation, the Air Force Association, and Roy Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing with his family and had many hair raising tales to tell about hunting and fishing trips in the wilderness of Alaska and the rice fields in California. He was quite active until health problems stood him up.
