John Edwin Brown
John Edwin Brown, 74, passed away August 27, 2021 at Intermountain Medical Center, in Murray, surrounded by his family, from complications of Covid-19. He was born in Ogden, Utah September 20, 1946 to Vera and John Edwin Brown. John lived in Utah his entire life and was one of six siblings.
John met the love of his life, Fran Brown, and they were married August 19, 1967. From that marriage they had two children, Boone (Trisha) Brown and Jenny (Greg) Scothern. They have four grandchildren: Sophie Scothern, Sam Scothern, Gage Brown and Riley Brown.
John worked his entire life. His first job was at Evans Superette in Ogden, and he also had a paper route as a young man to help his mother provide for the family. He worked at Sperry/Univac for 20 years, and helped in operations and financial aid at Fran Brown College of Beauty. His last career was in real estate, where he was proud to work at Wardley Better Homes and Garden, and later worked as a broker for Coldwell Banker Realty. John was very proud of his real estate career and loved the clients and colleagues he met throughout his career. If you purchased or sold a house with John, you became his lifelong friend. John always had his clients’ best interests at heart. Many of his clients became close friends and visited often. He also supported and helped Fran fulfill her dream of opening successful salons and beauty schools.
John was very community-minded and served in many capacities throughout the years. These include, but are not limited to: President of Kaysville Civic Association, President of the Kaysville Jaycees, President of the Kaysville Chamber of Commerce, and membership in the Kaysville Rotary Club. John served as President of the Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors and was a long-standing member of numerous committees. John was honored as Realtor of the Year in 2016, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 and 2018. John was also highly involved in the Coldwell Banker Foundation as a member of the Board of Directors.
John was a grateful recipient of a heart transplant in 2013, and was able to later connect with his donor family. John cherished the relationship that developed with his donor family, and proudly displayed a picture of his donor, Ryan Martin, next to his favorite chair. The family would like to extend a special thanks to John’s donor and his family. Your love lived in John and was a distinguishable light in his life and personality. John was honored to work with heart recipients, Brent Haupt and Jake Gilbert, to revitalize the Heart Transplant Support Group at Intermountain Medical Center, and was very proud of this service to his fellow transplant recipients.
John enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. John was a wonderful son, father, husband, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He often said his grandchildren were the greatest gift of all, and his biggest joy.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Fran Brown, his children Boone (Trisha) Brown and Jenny (Greg) Scothern, his grandchildren, sisters Pearl (Butch) Clawson and Valerie (Larry) Hegland, as well as Lori Martin and Dustin Maritn (His Donor Family). He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Jim, Robert, Mary and Robbie, as well as Ryan Martin (his heart donor).
The family would like to thank everyone at IHC (McKay Dee Hospital - Ogden and Intermountain Medical Center – Murray), that helped with caring for John, and the compassion they showed while doing so. We would like to send a special thanks to the IHC heart transplant team as well as the ICU doctors and nurses that helped treat John.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a contribution in John’s name, to Donor Connect, at donorconnect.life and click on contribute.
