John Paul Ficker
October 5, 1937 – January 2, 2015
LAYTON – John Paul Ficker, 77, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015.
He was born October 5, 1937 in Ft. Snelling, MN; the son of Nicholas C. and Lydia M. Lehman Ficker.
John married Somchit Ficker on November 14, 1995 in Farmington, Utah.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War and retired in 1974 as Sgt. 1 st Class. He worked as a cook on Hill AFB for an additional 20 years.
John was a crossing guard for Layton City for 10 years and CPR Certified. He saved his daughter’s life by knowing CPR.
John was a member of the Hill AFB Chapel, VFW, Post 8307 and the American Legion in Layton.
He loved family, dogs, hunting, shooting, home brewing, fishing, cooking and baking.
Surviving are his wife Somchit, daughters Joy Ficker and Lydia Ortega, sons John P. (Jan) Ficker II and Wittaya Ampaipan, Thailand, brother Joe Ficker, one grandson, two granddaughters and one great granddaughter.
Preceded in death by his parents, sisters Marie and Donna, and brother Tony.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Inurnment at Utah Veterans memorial Park, Bluffdale, Utah at a later date with military honors accorded.
