John Alan Flint, 87, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at his home in Syracuse.
Our cherished husband, father, and grandfather, was born on May 23, 1931 in Ogden, Utah, the son of John Virgil Flint and Myrtle Criddle. Dad lived in Syracuse for most of his life and graduated from Davis High School. He married his sweetheart, Gay LaRee Thompson, on November 18, 1949 in the LDS Salt Lake City Utah Temple. Dad and Mom made their home in Syracuse for their nearly 69 years of marriage.
After high school, Dad went on to become the youngest Journeyman Plumber in the state of Utah. He eventually became a Master Plumber and started his own Syracuse business, Flint Plumbing, where he worked alongside his two sons. Under his leadership, the business became well-known along the Wasatch Front for its integrity, craftsmanship, and work ethic. He loved horses and worked in the horse business, breeding and raising racehorses, for nearly 40 years.
Time spent with his family brought him immense joy. He had an individual relationship with each of us. Dad always had a twinkle in his eye and a story to tell. He had a dynamic personality and a genuine love for people. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He passed on a heritage of faithfulness to the Lord and had a testimony of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of Jesus Christ was the center of Dad’s life. He was true to the Gospel-- he believed it and he lived it. He served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church including bishop, high councilor, stake mission president, and missionary in the Florida Orlando Mission. He concluded his church service as a sealer in the LDS Ogden Utah Temple.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dan, his granddaughter Kari Flint, and his great-grandson Kaden Ryan.
Dad is survived by his wife, Gay Thompson Flint; children Kelly (Tamara) Flint, Suzie (Vaughn) Nelson, LuAnn (Dean) Steel, (Susan) Flint; sister Dawna Smith; 18 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
