John Grossnickle passed away on March 21, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.

John was born March 9, 1947 in Des Moines IA, to Donald and Julia Josephine Grossnickle. John was raised by his grandmother Sadie Anderson.

On august 14, 1999 John married the love of his life, Peggy Smith.

He graduated from East High school Des Moines IA. John received the Degree of Bachelor of Science at Weber State University.

John Served 12 years in the United States Air Force. He retired from the civil service (H.A.F.B).

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing softball before his health interfered. John liked to watch Nascar, never missed a race and enjoyed Fantasy football. John enjoyed Hunting in Morgan, Utah on his In-laws property. He had a strong love for his family. John enjoyed spending his winters in Yuma AZ with his wife and good friends.

John is survived by Peggy his wife and companion of 43 years, and his children: Lonnie (Kelly) Smith, Lynette (Steve) Calarino, Cheri (Don) Shurtleff and Sandy Phillips, 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, sister Suzanne Weiler, and brother Scott Peddycoart.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, parents, brother and granddaughter.

The family would like to give a special thank you to John''s dear friend Rulon Titensor.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
