John Dee Himes

John Dee Himes, 82, was reunited with his wife, Carilyn, in the early morning hours on November 11, 2023.

John was born on September 16, 1941 in Salem, Oregon to Wiley Dee Himes and Esther Gwendolyn (Hunsaker) Himes. He had a beautiful, lifelong relationship with his two sisters, Joanne Paul and Sharon Bevin. He married the love of his life in October of 1963 and has missed her terribly since she passed away in 2018.

He was a great father to four children: Scott, Trent, Heather and Brandon. He has thirteen grandchildren and a legion and great-grandchildren, some of whom are already around, but countless more will be arriving at later dates.

He was always a friendly man who loved talking to strangers and making them into friends. He spent his career as a welding supply salesman in the greater Portland, Oregon serving hard working men and women who always seemed to need emergency deliveries of acetylene or welding wire. 

For the past few years he has been staying at Sunridge Assisted Living in Layton, Utah. In spite of his dementia, John is well known and loved by the staff and fellow residents there. He was always quick to greet and tell life stories to everyone he saw. The neighbors would often see him taking walks with his dog, Maggie. They would laugh to see Maggie get tired and ride on John’s walker like a royal princess.

Although we are happy for him and believe his is in a happier place, we will miss him terribly.
