John Henry Meibos Jr.
LAYTON a" John was born April 27, 1912 in Riverdale, Utah. He was the first son of John Henry Sr. and Gertrude Hermina Bekker Meibos. He had five older sisters and three younger brothers.
He grew up in Riverdale, Utah, later moving to West Warren. As a child he learned to speak English and Dutch because his parents were both of Holland decent. John was a hard worker at a very early age.
John married Zelma Hodson on March 28, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. She died May 31, 2000. They were married for 63 years. They lived in West Warren, later making their home in Layton where he lived for 70 years.
John was a farmer in West Layton and worked for the Davis County School District as a bus driver. He was an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple for 23 years. He and his wife Zelma served an LDS mission in New York. John served in many church positions in his ward.
John was a devoted son, brother, father, uncle, neighbor and friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons Jack and Dee, his parents, five sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his daughter Jean (David) Porter, Meridian, Idaho; a son Darrell (Terry) Meibos, Layton, Utah; 10 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Layton Meadow Green Chapel, 3161 W. 150 No. Layton. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Plain City Cemetery.
