John David Moyer
Our Gentle Giant passed away on October 31, 2008 in Salt Lake City, UT, with his family at his bedside, from complications resulting from a motorcycle accident.
He was born November 27, 1955 in Iowa City, Iowa to David Sherman Moyer and C. Lillian Showman. He was raised in Iowa with siblings Joni (David) Caplan, Donald Moyer, and Dan Moyer (Tonda) and educated in Iowa schools until he began his six year enlistment with the United States Air Force.
While stationed in Utah he met his sweetheart Janet Sue Larsen, who introduced him to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. John and Janet were married June 18, 1976 in Kaysville, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple and they were blessed with four children: Jeanine Rae, Jeremy John, Derek Jason, Christopher James, Nick Carter and many other foster children.
His family has lived in Clearfield, UT, Iowa, New Mexico and for the last 18 years Kaysville, Utah. John had a strong testimony of the gospel and served in many church callings, but particularly enjoyed his many years in scouting. He was an avid learner and particularly enjoyed four-wheeling, motorcycles, ham radio, woodworking, and being in the mountains spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, daughter Jeanine, son Chris, Kaysville, UT, son Jeremy of Island Park, ID, son Derek of Lindon, UT, foster son Nick, mother-in-law Arel J. Larsen, parents, siblings and family of Iowa.
Preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law Darrel Thompson and Barbara L. Thompson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Kaysville East Stake Center, 201 South 600 East. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main, and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 at the church.
Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
