John Castle Nuttall, aged 63, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in the early morning of July 25, 2024. Born on October 9, 1960, in Ogden, Utah to Donald and Cathryn Nuttall. John graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1979. He married his sweetheart, Tammy Egbert, on January 2, 1992. John dedicated his life to his family and his craft, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love, and laughter.
At a young age, John accompanied his father to his HVAC business which sparked his lifetime love for the sheet metal trade. A career long member of the Local 312 Sheet Metal Union, John was not only skilled in his trade but also deeply respected by his peers. His dedication and craftsmanship were evident in every project he undertook. There wasn’t a room he would walk into without pointing out the duct work. Much of his career was with Western Sheet Metal, most recently he was a superintendent with RM Chris.
John had a passion for fishing, NASCAR, and sports, “GO UTES!” He looked forward every year to Redneck Weekend at NASCAR, cheering on Kyle Larson. John had the biggest, sweet tooth and went to great lengths to hide his treats. We look forward to uncovering his hidden candy stashes and sharing another moment with him. He found great joy in spending time at Bear Lake, where he created countless cherished memories with his family. He valued his friendships, and if you were a friend, you were family.
Known for his incredible sense of humor, John was the undisputed king of dad jokes. His wit and charm could light up any room, and his jokes will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Everyone loved and enjoyed his stories, from growing up in the foothills of Ogden, to stealing a “six-foot” goose. He loved raising his kids and teaching them sports, especially baseball and softball with his beloved mitt, The Hawk.
John was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, and his brothers, Donny and Wayne Nuttall. He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Nuttall; his four children, Tyson (Laura) Shields, of Ogden, Utah, Katie Nuttall of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Tayler (Jase) Taylor of St. Cloud, Florida, and Trevor (Aunna) Nuttall of Syracuse, Utah; and his five beloved grandchildren, Kaiden, Mason, Kendyl, Easton and Devyn. He is also survived by his siblings, Pat Decius, Dr. William (Linda) DeVries, Ann (Dave) Burton, Doug (Beatrice) Nuttall, Jan Mortensen, and Chris (Jim) Wempe.
John’s presence in our lives was a source of strength and joy. His memory will forever be cherished.
The Family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Katie Kerrigan and the doctors and nurses at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
