John Ospital, 84, passed away on September 13, 2017.

Born in Ogden, Utah on May 16, 1933, he was the son of Peter and Julia Ospital; both immigrants from the Basque region of Spain & France. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1951 and served in the US Army. He attended Utah State University & graduated with a BS in Industrial Engineering.

He met Winnifred Parker while in college and they were married on September 14, 1957.

John was employed by Thiokol Corp. for 30 years, where he retired in 1992 as Manager of Industrial Engineering. During his working career he was a member of Toastmasters International and The American Institute of Industrial Engineers, serving one term as regional president. He also served on the board of directors for the Red Cross of America.

He coached several little league teams and maintained relationships with several of his “kids” as they grew to adulthood.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, golf, travel and skiing, in that order. He was proud of his Basque heritage and after his retirement visited his relatives and both original family homes in the Pyrenees.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Winnifred, and son, Todd and is survived by his son, Chris (Judie) and his two grandchildren, Andria (Andi) and Adam who were also his Sunday sundae partners.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 East 6600 South, Ogden with Father Charles Cummins presiding. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 6 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
