“Know you’re loved, kid.”
John Alton Peterson returned home to a loving Heavenly Father on March 23, 2017. As the oldest son to Naomi and Alton Haws Peterson, he was born March 18, 1940. John Graduated from Ogden High School in 1958. After high school he attended some college at Utah State University where he met the love of his life, Carole Elkington. He enlisted in the Army in November of 1962. After almost a year of service he married his sweetheart in September of 1963. They were then sealed in the Salt Lake Temple one year later and remained married for 53 ½ years at the time of his passing. He served in the Army for 3 years as a signal specialist and was honorably discharged after the birth of his and Carole’s first child. John and Carole went on to have three children.
John spent most of his career at Hill Air Force Base where he retired in 1995. Thereafter, whenever he was asked about how retirement was he’d respond, “My TV works and so does my wife!” John loves his family and his sweet wife. His passing will leave a huge void. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. All who knew him loved him and appreciated his humor and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother, Edward Lee Peterson (“Fast Eddy”). He is survived by his sweet bride Carole, sister; Coila Robinson (husband, Brent Robinson), sons; Phillip and David Peterson, daughter; Jan Dawson, daughters-in-law; Sherron and Chris Peterson, son-in-law; Steven Dawson, ten grandchildren; PJ Peterson (wife, Kailee Peterson), Brennen Peterson, Mikaela Peterson (currently serving in Czech/Slovak Mission), Nathan Peterson, Kylee Peterson, Alexa Peterson, Taylor Dawson (wife, Madisen), Spencer Dawson, Paige Dawson, and Maren Dawson, and one great-grandchild; Connor Peterson.
The family is extremely grateful for the very caring professional doctors, nurses, and staff at Davis North Medical Center. Their hard work, commitment, and compassion was an inspiration to behold and a welcomed comfort for the family.
