John Petroff Sr.
John “Grandpa John” passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at his home due to causes incident to age.
John was born on April 10, 1922 to John and Mary who immigrated to the USA through Ellis Island in 1912. His love of country and willingness to serve others came from the teachings of his parents.
John grew up in the Denver area where he graduated from Arvada High in 1940 and then served his country in World War II as part of the Greatest Generation. After returning from the war, John married Betty LaRue, they had two children and were later divorced. He then married Bea Miller who he has been happily married to for 43 years. They had a son and daughter.
John worked for Denver Rio Grande for 42 years. Upon retirement, he moved to Utah where he worked at his son’s business (JP’s Texaco), attending the full-service pumps and taking care of all the “little old ladies” who needed special attention.
His loves included traveling with his wife Bea, fishing the rivers and streams of the west and spending time with his family. He often attended the sporting events, recitals and special occasions for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John was easy to talk with and he would quickly tell you about “the big fish that got away” or the latest Denver Broncos game. He was quick to be your friend, unless you were a Packers fan, then it took a little longer.
John is survived by his wife Bea, his son John Petroff, Jr.(Pamela), daughter Sally Chen, daughter Shelley Ringleman (Ed), son Jeffery Miller, 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 10, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
