John Joseph “Jack” Radl passed away in Layton, Utah on September 13, 2013, surrounded by loved ones, after an extended illness. He was born Ocober 9, 1949 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and was adopted by Alois and Lila Radl. He married Vickie Lynn Decker on January 2, 1973 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The marriage was later solemnized on October 11, 1975 in the Oakland LDS temple.
At the age of eighteen, Jack joined the Navy and went to Vietnam and was later stationed in San Diego. He later joined the army and served in the Special Forces as a Green Beret, retiring from the 1st and 19th SFG.
Jack highly valued his education; obtaining a Masters Degree in HR. He also valued his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings and as a high priest and served several missions for the church.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. As an Eagle Scout, he was always prepared and willing to help others. He is survived by his wife, Vickie, and his three sons: Jerry of Layton, UT, Aaron (Jenn) of Sandy, UT, and John J. Radl II, also of Layton. He is also survived by a sister, Linda Allen of Oregon, and many other siblings. He has ten grandchildren and was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents and one brother and sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary, and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.
