JOHN W. “JACK” RILEY, CMSGT, USAF RET.
Jack was freed from his battle with Alzheimer’s on March 8, 2017. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised on Chincoteague Island, Virginia. After graduating from Chincoteague High School, he joined the United States Air Force. His assignments took him to Spain, Vietnam, Germany and several states, his last assignment at Hill Air Force Base. He served a total of 24 years and was awarded numerous medals and citations.
Jack and his family settled in South Ogden, Utah. He then worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and as a civilian employee at Hill AFB. He was a kind, fair, loving man and a great example to those who knew him. Jack was a voracious reader and greatly enjoyed outdoor activities including hiking, boating, camping and skiing. Throughout his life he found great joy in returning to Chincoteague Island to bodysurf and walk the beach on Assateague Island with his wife Gisela.
Jack is survived by his wife, Gisela, sons Kevin (Kari) and Michael Riley, daughter Andrea (Doug) Bagley, grandchildren Kaitlin and Rachel Riley, Sammie (Bagley) & Marco Trujillo, and Jake Bagley. In keeping with Jack's wishes, no services are planned. The family wishes to thank the staff at Brighton Hospice and Sagewood at Daybreak for their care. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Alzheimer's research or a cause of your choice. Condolences may be shared at www.lindquistmortuary.com
