John Ronald Lewis passed away peacefully at his home in Sunset, UT, with his family at his side, on August 23rd, 2024. He was born on January 17th, 1931, to Howard Moses Lewis and Edith Eliza Johnson in Commodore, Pennsylvania. He attended Green Township High School, where he met the love of his life, Delores Elaine Daniels. He briefly worked in the coal mines before joining the United States Air Force on October 17th, 1950. They recently celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary.
SMSGT Lewis served honorably and with distinction until November 1st, 1978, having served a total of 28 years. John spent his entire military career as a Digital Flight Simulator Technician and Flight Training Devices Support, having trained pilots for post WWII Europe, The Korean War, and the Vietnam War. After his military retirement, he continued to faithfully serve his country as a civil servant at Hill AFB, UT.
John married Delores (Dee) on May 14th, 1953. They recently celebrated their 71st anniversary. They had three children: Robin, Susan, and Kathy, who, being Air Force brats, were born all over the world.
He loved to fish and hunt. He could often be found tinkering in the garage with an ice-cold beer for anyone who stopped by. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was so talented, he could pick up and play just about any musical instrument, and we will all miss his songs. Before joining the Air Force, he was often found with his brothers, picking the guitar in the Lewis Family band. He was a member of the American Legion for the last 47 years.
John is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Susan Williams, sisters, Grace, Mary Jane, Gertrude, and Mildred: brothers; Elmer, Leonard, Bob, and Allen: and numerous nephews and nieces.
He is survived by his wife Delores of Sunset, daughters, Robin (Monte) Osiek of Hooper, Kathy (Dan) LemMon of Riverdale, sister Genevieve (Bill) Cairns of Dearborn, Michigan, grandsons, John (Michelle) Ecklund of Harrisville, Daniel (Yianna) LemMon of South Weber, Clint (Linda) Osiek of Hooper, Kyle (Andi) Osiek of Clinton, granddaughters, Daina (Billy) Hughes of Roy, Kelsie LemMon of Washington Terrace, great grandchildren Bryson, Brynlee, Addison, Weston, Jordyn, and Hailey and numerous (to many to count) great great grandchildren.
