John Rulon Teerlink

September 6, 1928 — March 20, 2024

Holladay

John Rulon Teerlink, at the age of 95, found his mortal adventure completed. He endured faithfully and graduated from mortality on March 20, 2024.

Rulon was born during The Great Depression to Mary Luella Love and Nicholas John Teerlink on September 6, 1928.

Rulon was called to the East Central States LDS Mission from 1948 to 1950.  He served as an Assistant to the President and was there introduced to the beautiful young lady who would later become his wife.

Upon his return from his mission, he began a written correspondence with the lovely JoAnn Garvin and quickly invited her to visit Salt Lake.  She never returned to Ohio.  They were married in September of 1951, and Rulon left soon after to serve our country in the Counterintelligence Corps in Korea.

Upon his return from service, Rulon owned his own printing company, Teerlink Printing, and worked for the Lang Company, Uarco, and Mark Steel.  Beginning as an Eagle Scout, Rulon continued with a lifelong love of scouting.  He served as a scoutmaster, an executive on the Great Salt Lake Scout Council, and was a leader at the National Jamboree.  He was also awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver Award.

Church service included bishop of the East Millcreek 1st Ward, bishopric counselor, high councilman, and ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple.  Rulon and JoAnn served a church service mission with LDS Social Services as well as serving in the mission office in the Florida Tallahassee Mission.  Community service included reading with youngsters at Redwood Elementary and teaching at the Salt Lake County Jail.

Always a family man, Dad organized family trips to Bear Lake, Balboa Island, Ohio, Colter Bay, and National Parks. His hobbies included photography, playing his beloved harmonica, automobiles, and supreme do-it-yourselfer.

He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; his children Mark (Ranell), Cindy (Douglas), Marianne (mystery man), Bradley (Jennifer); twelve grandchildren, and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his siblings, Leland, Richard, and Luella.  He is preceded in death by his brother, Wilford.

Memorial services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the East Millcreek North Stake Center, 3408 Celeste Way, Salt Lake City, Utah.
