John LaVerl Staker

– John LaVerl Staker, 75, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 19, 2010 after a courageous eight year battle with interstitial lung disease. He spent 54 amazing years with the love of his life and best friend, Utana Jensen, and together they raised four wonderful daughters, Debbie, Shelly, Kristi and JoDee. Jack was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held many positions. He faithfully served at the Ogden Temple until his health would no longer permit. Jack proudly served in the United States Navy during times of war. He obtained a Masters Degree from BYU in Education Administration and then dedicated 35 years of his life to teaching. He also enjoyed coaching junior and high school basketball. He is survived by his wife and daughters, Debra (Brent) Marigoni, Hooper; Shelly (Blair) Read, Plain City; Kristi Hinckley, Holladay; and JoDee (Tim) Jensen, Roy. He is also survived by a sister, Joan (Rod) Orell and his brother, Jeff (Suzanne) Newey. Jack’s legacy also includes ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 23rd at 11 a.m. at the Hooper Cemetery. Family and friends welcome. Funeral Directors, Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary.
