John Michael St. Clair (Mike), born on September 18, 1937 in Washington, D.C., died peacefully in Layton, UT on September 12, 2017 after a long battle with diabetes and a short battle with Alzheimer's. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon Johnson. St. Clair and his 6 children, John Michael Jr. of Seattle, Gregory (Melanie) of Phoenix, Jeffrey (Angie) of Atlanta, Kent (Amy) of Las Vegas, Mary (David) Yost of Layton, and Scott (Gigi) of Orlando and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hillary W. and Carmen St. Clair, and a 7 yr. old grandchild, Cole St. Clair.

Mike earned two degrees in Engineering: a Bachelor of Science from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, and a Master of Science from the University of Maryland. After college, he joined the Army and earned the rank of First Lieutenant. Mike then worked for the National Bureau of Standards and the National Weather Service for over 34 years. He retired as Chief of Engineering for the National Weather Service.

Although Mike had a distinguished career with the government, he wanted no honor or recognition.

He was civic minded and served as the President of the local swim club.  He was a big supporter of the Boy Scouts of America.  Mike was very instrumental in helping 4 of his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.  He spent countless hours in supporting and even coaching his children in their sports teams.  He will be best remembered as a kind and thoughtful husband and father that faithfully attended soccer, football, and baseball games, as well as swim meets and musical theater events with his beloved children.

Mike was very strong in his faith as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  After retirement, Mike and his wife served for eight years in the Washington, D.C. Temple.  He was also called as Bishop of the Rock Creek Ward, Washington, D.C. Stake where he served for seven years. After relocating from Maryland to Utah in 2005, he served with his wife as a temple worker in the Ogden Temple for four years.

Mike had a strong testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice for mankind.  He always tried to live his life as Christ would want him to live. This was very evident in the way he lived his life, the way he loved his wife and the way he raised his children.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
