John Matthew Stubbs

John Matthew Stubbs, 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2017.

He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on February 12, 1950, the son of James D. and Betty J. Stubbs. He graduated from East Detroit High School, attended Macomb Community College, and graduated from Weber State University.

John served four years in the U.S. Navy (1968-1972) as a Hospital Corpsman. He then proudly served the Ogden Police Department for 34 years, starting as a Uniform Officer and retiring as a Lieutenant in 2010.

John loved music, reading, and history. He also loved being outdoors and exploring the desert.

He was a son of the American Revolution, being directly descended from two men who fought for our independence.

He was preceded in death by his father James and mother Betty. John is survived by his brother, James Stubbs, Jr., his former wife and life-long friend Luanne Fowers and their daughters, CJ (Brock) DuRain, Jamie (Seth) Pilkington, and his former wife and friend Laurel Stubbs and their son John Matthew Stubbs, Jr. He is also survived by five beautiful grandchildren and two wonderful nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, West Haven Cemetery.
