He joined the US Air Force where he served in the Korean Conflict War, under the direction of the Brigadier General, stationed in Munich, Germany. John returned home, then moved back to California. Dad was an avid bowler. He served as president and secretary of the Ogden Bowling league Association for many years, and was inducted into the Bowling hall of fame. When Dad wasn't bowling or hanging out in the mornings with his coffee buddies, he loved to swim, golf, play pool, play croquet and cards, listen to country music, sing, and play harmonica. Dad was an avid Sports enthusiast. He knew every team, players and stats. Dad also loved game shows where he would have made one tough contestant.

John leaves behind his beloved sweet wife of 64 years, Jacquelyn (Jackie), whom he adored, his two treasured daughters and their families: Vicky Wheeler (Tony), Kathy Bate (Rick), seven precious grandchildren - Andrew John (AJ), Brayden (Lynsie), Kelsey (Levi), Garrett, Richard John (RJ), Kassidy, Kaitlyn, sister Marlene Vogel (NV), half-brother Duane Treu (CA) half-sister Laurie Gibb (NV), and many nephews and nieces.
