John passed away unexpectedly at Ogden Regional Saturday afternoon. He was born in Mankato, Minnesota, to Irvin and Phyllis Senesac Wenkel. He was of the Catholic faith.
He joined the Air Force at the age of 19 from March 1961 to March 1965 at Hill Air Force Base. He was in the 4677 as an aircraft mechanic. After the Air Force he went into Civil Service as an aircraft mechanic working his way up to supervisor. He retired in 1993 after 32 years. He enjoyed his retirement very much.
In 1961, he met Rosalie Krukenmeier from Colorado. They were married in the St. Joseph Catholic Church August 30, 1963. They spent many days camping at LaPlata. John was right at home in the mountains.
John is survived by his wife, Rosalie Wenkel of 59 years; son, Kevin and wife Julie Wenkel; daughter Joell Coker; grandson, Ashton and wife Eloni Wenkel, T.J. and wife Jocelyn Lail; and John Coker; one granddaughter and three great-granddaughters, four great-grandsons; and one extremely good longtime friend from the Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, and two brothers-in-laws.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
