John (Jack) Bushman

John (Jack) Theodore Bushman

John (Jack) Theodore Bushman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away on October 18, 2014 at his home of natural causes. He was born in Ogden, Utah on June 14, 1931 to Archie L. and Isabelle Doyle Bushman and lived in the family home in Ogden throughout his life until his marriage.

Jack married Betty Mifflin on March 9, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. The parents of seven children, they were married for 63 wonderful years.

A graduate of Ogden High School, Weber State College, and Utah State University, he did graduate work at the University of Oregon, Southwestern at Memphis and LeMoyne College in Tennessee, and Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania, and also studied at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University.

Jack was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves for twelve years. His work career was as an educator in the Weber School District where he taught history at Bonneville High School and served as an administrator at Roy and Weber High Schools and in other district schools, retiring as the Principal of Roy Junior High School.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jack served in many callings in ward and stake including bishopric of the South Ogden 38 th Ward, bishop of the Layton Third and Twentieth Wards, and in the Layton East Stake Presidency. He was a gifted teacher and his favorite church calling was as Gospel Doctrine teacher. He and his wife served a mission to the England Bristol Mission, a temple mission to the St. George Temple, and as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple.

He loved the mountains and his favorite place to be was out among nature. As a fisherman, he knew few equals and gardening was a hobby he particularly enjoyed. Studying and learning was a continuing part of his life for as long as he lived.

Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Mae, parents and two brothers, Marvin and Archie (Bud). He is survived by his wife and six children, John (Jeanette), North Ogden; Keith (Marlene), Layton; Glen (Julie), Syracuse; Rees (Tara), Portland, Oregon; Ann (Joseph), Layton; and Joy (Robert), Helper; a brother, Larry, and a sister-in-law, LaDean, 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Chapel, 2435 E. Canyon Rim Drive. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden, Utah.
