"Together Forever"

John and Nada Nicholas left this life together on Friday, February 10, 2017. It was their greatest desire that one of them would not be left alone and their prayers were answered. Their love, which was an inspiration to all who knew them, will continue uninterrupted through eternity. They were sweethearts since Junior High school and married July 31, 1942 in the Logan LDS Temple. They were preparing to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary.

John was born July 31, 1922 in Clinton, Utah. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1940 and is a veteran of World War II. He retired from Carpenter Paper Company after 50 years of service but continued on as Vice President and as a member of the Board of Directors. He was a past president of the Ogden Executives Club. He was on the Sunset City Council for 18 years, the mayor of Sunset for 10 years, a charter member of the Board of Trustees for the Davis North Hospital, and a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He also served as bishop for 11 years and stake president for seven years in Sunset as well as serving on the LDS Church General Social Services Board.

Nada was born on June 12, 1923 in Harrisville, Utah. She also graduated from Ogden High School in 1940. She began studying the piano at the age of 6 and began voice lessons at the age of 14. She was a noted vocalist and was called upon to perform at many events. She has served in every auxiliary in the LDS church. She always had a music calling in addition to her other callings. She has composed many songs and one piano solo. She worked at the Kress 5 & 10 cent store, Deseret Mortuary, the Utah General Depot and the Los Angeles Signal Depot during World War II. She also founded a wedding catering business in 1971. She served as president of the Utah League of Cities and Towns Auxiliary, director of the Miss Sunset pageant for 11 years, director of the Miss Davis County Pageant for six years, and worked on the Miss Utah pageant for a year. She and her family decorated and donated a tree to the Festival of Trees for 37 years.

John and Nada instituted their traditional Christmas open house which continued for over 30 years and was anticipated every year by their friends and fellow citizens of Sunset. They have traveled to 53 countries and served an LDS mission to Ireland.

They are the parents of six children: Lyn Templeton, deceased; Jeanette Hammond (Rick), deceased; Kathy Larsen, John Nicholas (Eileen); Patti Choate (Dan), deceased; and Sharee Kapp (Randy). They were also foster parents to three Native American children. They have 30 grandchildren and over 100 great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Sunset Stake Center, 220 W. 975 N. in Sunset. The family will greet friends on Thursday night between 6 and 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S. and on Friday prior to the funeral, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center.
