Jonathon Clarence Freston

Jonathon C. Freston, 84, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 in North Ogden, Utah.  He was born on April 20, 1939, to Cyrus Wheelock and Lillian Fowkes Freston, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He was the youngest of four brothers.

He attended Weber County Schools.  He served as Student Body President at South Ogden Junior High School and enjoyed participating in sports.  He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1956 and proudly served for three years.  He married the love of his life, Georgia L. Gerritson, and together they had three children, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.  He loved them all dearly and was very proud of each of them.

He worked for the Weber County Recorders Office.  While there, he created and implemented the first computerized land recording system.  He was asked to teach it to many counties around the country.  He retired in the early 1990’s until he was recruited by our government to travel to Russia and start this program there.  He and Georgia enjoyed that trip very much.

He loved to golf, and boasted that he taught his grandson, Brett, and great-grandson, Matt, everything they know about golf.  He enjoyed traveling with Georgia, camping, fishing, and reading.  He was a great storyteller.  He wrote several entertaining novels, some loosely based on his time growing up.

Jon is survived by his daughter, Laura (Bob) Bemenderfer, and his son, Ron (Sherri) Freston; his six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; his brothers, Cy W. (Janet) Freston, and James (Margie) Freston; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia; daughter, Janet King; his parents; one brother, Robert; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Geri and Charlie Kent; and his mother-in-law, June Gerritson.

The family wishes to thank the loving staff at Quail Meadows Assisted Living and Memory Care.  We also thank the AFI/Cascade Springs Hospice for their supportive care.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Lindquist North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 East 2850 North, North Ogden.
