Jose Luis Mendez Gallegos, 67, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015.  He was born on March 19, 1948 in Mexico City, Mexico to Leonardo and Guadalupe Gallegos Olvera Mendez.  He was raised in Mexico City and moved to Ogden, Utah at the age of 42 and worked at Ruby River, Patricia’s, Chaparros, and Angela Maurice Cookie Factory in Layton, and for American Nutrician.

He married Hortensia Escamilla Hernandez in Mexico City, Mexico in 1978.

Jose is a member of the Catholic Church.

He enjoyed playing soccer, dancing, playing cards, and dominos.  He also enjoyed family reunions, cooking, eating, going to moves and watching boxing. He loved playing with his grandkids. 

Jose is survived by his wife, Hortensia; children, Dario Renell Mendez, Mexico City, Mexico; Angelica (David) Madrigal, Ogden; Claudia (Sergio Mendez, Layton; Laura mendez, Ogden; Mirna Mendez, Ogden; and Jose Luis, Mendez, Jr, Ogden; 24 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; parents, Leonardo Mendez and Guadalupe Gallegos Olvera, Mexico City, Mexico; siblings, Eva Mendez and Angela Mendez, Mexico City, Mexico; Leonardo (Lourdes) Mendez, Jr., Salt Lake City; Benjamin Mendez, Sunset; Angel Mendez, Salt Lake City; and Juana Mendez, Ogden.  He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Miranda.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 495 N. Harrison Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
