Jose Clotario Montoya

May 4, 1927 ~ November 29, 2018

Jose Clotario Montoya, 91, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018. He was born on May 4, 1927, the son of Jose Maria Montoya and Maria Encarnacion Lucero. Clotario was born and raised in Cuba, NM.

He worked hard on the family farm before courting Esther Maria Montaño, whom he met when his sister, Fanny, married her brother, Rosendo. Clotario was the best man and they fell in love. They met in June of 1952 and were married on the 2nd the following March; they have been dating ever since. They completed 65 years of marriage this spring. They have lived in Montrose, CO and later Hawthorne, NV, and after five years came to Ogden. Clotario worked for DDO in Ogden for 36 years in logistics until retiring in 1989. He was a wonderful man, a patient, loving, non-judgmental man who was thoughtful and generous. He would give the shirt off his back and ended nearly every conversation with “Love you, God bless you.”

Clotario and Esther loved fishing, camping, several cruises, and lots of fun trips to Nevada. Clotario enjoyed gardening and was devoted to its success. More than anything, he loved his family.

Clotario is survived by his wife, Esther Maria Montaño Montoya of Ogden; sons, Jose M. (Mary) Montoya of Glendale, AZ and Lando J. (Pablina) Montoya of Ogden; daughters, Maria (Ralph) Rino of Ogden and Teresa V. Montoya; 16 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Isabel (Rosendo) Robles of Fresno, CA, Fanny Reta of Montrose, CA, and Wilfred Montoya of Ogden. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Demecia, Rupe, Herminia; and brothers, Bonefacio and Julian.
