Joseph Patrick Akridge, Joe to his friends and family, passed away in his sleep at his home, on September 1, 2019. Joe was a native Californian and a native San Franciscan. He was born in San Francisco, California on September 8, 1951 to Consuelo and Donald Akridge (d.2002) Joe was married to Maureen (McDonough) Akridge, who preceded him in 1995 along with their unborn child, Ryan Patrick.

He is survived by his mother, Consuelo Miles, wife, Barbara (Gamber) Akridge, stepson, Jonathan Logue, son, Daniel J. Akridge, daughter, Colleen Akridge Smythe, (h. Corey Smythe), and grandchildren, Addilynn Akridge, Jaelyn, Ashlyn, Emmalyn Smythe and Samantha Caddell.

Additionally, he had four siblings, Saundra Akridge (h. Michael Foy), Jeanette Abelman (h. Steven Abelman), Donna Akridge (Larry Jeter d.2017), and James Akridge. Joe also had 7 nieces, Chelsea Kushner, Caley Akridge, Rebecca Abelman, Laura Abelman, Alison Akridge-Foy, Sarah Silva, Megan Rosalez, and one nephew, Brian Akridge-Foy

Joe attended Star of the Sea grammar school, in San Francisco, from first grade through 8th, and graduated in 1966. In 1966, he moved to Walnut Creek California and attended   Del Valle High School graduating in 1970. While in high school Joe participated in many different sports, most especially J.V. and Varsity football and shot put. Joe met and married his wife Maureen McDonough, in California. They married in 1986 and lived in California where their son Daniel was born. He was transferred Utah, in the early 1990’s, where his daughter Colleen was born. Joe raised his family in Washington Terrace Utah, until moving to Ogden, where he remained the rest of his life.

In 2000, he married Barbara Gamber and added her son, Jonathan to the family. They truly brought the family together as a whole and Joe adored his wife and all of his children.

Joe was active in the Catholic community in Ogden. He was a lifelong San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants fan. He maintained several lifelong friends dating back to his high school years. Before he developed health issues, he enjoyed the open road and at one time, was employed as a truck driver, driving big rigs cross-country. He was known to drive with his wife and children all night long to attend family celebrations.  The joy of his later years was being in the company of his grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment will be held on Friday, September 6th at 11 a.m. at Aultorest Memorial Park.
