Joseph LeRoy Butler Jr.

Kind and gentle LeRoy was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on Veterans Day to Joseph LeRoy Butler Sr. and Signe Leonia Bessie Bruse Butler. He was a proud Eagle Scout and honorably served in the US Army. He served an LDS mission in England and graduated from the U of U. He married his beloved companion and sweetheart, Patricia Marlene Jones, April 21, 1961 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He taught 5th and 6th grades at Syracuse Elementary for 33 years.
LeRoy left the world behind him even in life, valuing life’s riches above material gain. Despite modest means, he gave priority to piano, viola, classical ballet and sporting pursuits for his children and grandchildren. He maintained friendships through all walks of life. His light-touch wit and keen mind were sharp to the very end. He was a man of impeccable integrity who experienced Christ as his Savior, and followed him as Lord.
He is survived by his wife Patricia and their six children: Michal Anne Bouwhuis (Chet), Miriam Carter (Calvin-deceased), Warren Butler (Cheryl), LuAnn Purnell (John), Carol Butler (Jim Guilkey), Thomas Butler (Michelle); 25 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville Rock Chapel, 25 South 200 East, Kaysville. VisitationTuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main; Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery. Contributions may be made in LeRoy’s honor to the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake in lieu of flowers.
