JOSEPH F. GARDNER

11/23/1931 — 2/11/2021

Joseph Floyd Gardner passed away Wednesday, February 11th at home in Provo, Utah. He was born in West Jordan to Floyd Smith Gardner and Mary Henderson. He grew up on the family farm-- the eldest of four siblings:  Bill, Steve, Mickey and Mary. He attended Jordan High School.  His college years were interrupted while he served during the Korean Conflict as an airman at Nellis Air Force Base. He completed his education at Utah State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. During his summers he worked surveying roads for the US Forest Service. Joe’s career was spent in the Aerospace Industry.

Joe married Wanda Johnson on October 18, 1951. They shared a busy life, moving around the west where Joe’s work took him:  Nevada, California, Wyoming and Utah.  They raised five children and enjoyed life in the Western US by camping, fishing, backpacking, and in later years, playing golf. Joe and Wanda retired to Riverdale, Utah. Wanda passed away December 12, 2012

Joe was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He was a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America; he led groups into the Sierras and deserts of Southern California on many memorable camping trips. He loved fishing and exploring the canyons of Southern Utah with his sons and grandsons; he received a birthday gift flight on a B17--one of his dreams come true.

Joe married Dean Dowding on May 28, 2014. Together they enjoyed sharing time with family. Joe was an enthusiastic writer and story teller; everyone loved his stories. They had hoped to travel, but instead, became armchair travelers via PBS and Smithsonian TV.

Joe is survived by his wife Dean, sister Mary, son Joseph, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda; daughters: Sylvia, Robyn, and Tina; and son Wayne.

A family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch in Ogden, Utah.
